An amazing sound

Brodie has one of the best laughs I have ever heard. It's the great, "deep", toddler belly-laugh. It's big, it's real, it's honest...and it's one of the best things I have ever heard in my life.

More to come

School technically ended yesterday, but I've a few odds and ends to clear up. Nothing major but just some of those "have to do" things.

I've plans in motion...more on that later.

Oh, if anyone wants a Joost invite, let me know. I downloaded an updated version last night and it's an improved experience on the software side of things. Fun to play around with.

Joost Invitations

RGS is giving out Joost Invitations, and all you have to do is link to them.

Pretty spiffy.

Actually, Joost looks like a pretty interesting service. After looking over stuff like SlingBox (still really tempting) this looks like an easier kind of method. The channel selection seems to get better by the week and they have a lot of high-profile media companies getting in on the act.

Like I said, interesting. I can't really help but wonder how much longer it's going to be until on-demand TV is the norm rather than the exception.

Sort of cool

I was told that I won an academic prize this year. Something for "returning" students.

Nice to be recognized, especially since this prize is awarded only by the faculty. Means my department staff is impressed with my work I suppose.

Anyway, nice to be noticed.

Seeing the light at the end

The term ends in just about two weeks. While I'm still up in the air about committing to the Summer project, I'll be very glad to hit a bit of a soft spell when it comes to my reading.

It's been rewarding, if not a little maddening. The move to UW Madison is looking like a better and better thing, especially since my status will remain unchanged. That was more nerve-wracking than anything else, thinking that I may have to come up with the money for grad school and get more student loans.

It does mean tacking about a year of time onto the process but I'm not too broken up about that. I've been enjoying the process for the most part, and now that I have a bit more of credibility in the department, it means things are easier all around.

The next two weeks though...damn.
