The State of the Union?
I could put it no better than this...
via
Are you shitting me? That maniac is so far removed from reality that we here on planet earth look like ants to him. He is shitting us. He's totally shitting us. He is shitting us, each and every one. He would shit us all individually if he could, but time constraints being what they are, he must shit us en masse. Just be aware: you, personally, have been shitted. This guy, he really knows how to shit people. If he were a martial artist, he'd be Shit-Yu -- and his shit-fu would be strong.
Jesus H. Christ.
The shit. The shit.

Giving myself over to a higer power
I just can't go on like this anymore. There's something...missing from my life. There's a void that I cannot explain. Much like a yearning or need...it's almost as if...well, that my soul was crying out for something.
Day after day there seems to be little meaning to things. Random chance and happenstance can only push you so far as a person. After awhile you begin to realize that there's something more...something that you need to embrace and give yourself over to.
For years my mother-in-law in North Carolina has been pleading with us to "get religion" to find meaning and fulfillment. To go after that intangeable power or faith before we're lost.
Yes, I'm talking about NASCAR.
I've tried to hold off for as long as I can...but the sound of the engines...the squeal of the rubber as it tears around the oval...the subliminal commands in the movie Cars...I just can't take it anymore.
It's time to turn off my brain and give up my soul to NASCAR. I only hope I am worthy enough one day to receive the Holy Communion of the Winston Cup. That I may one day be able to drive an overpowered 4x4 pickup truck, with angelic mudflaps commerating St. Earnhardt and a window decal of Calvin pissing on a Ford logo. That I may one day make that pilgrimage to Daytona and tell my sons, "Yes, I was there...and I ate deep fried Snickers bars".
Redneck Heaven is now open unto me. I shall no longer fear the afterlife, for I will dwell in the Holiest of Holy Pit Rows forever and ever.
Amen...and start your engines!

Hell and Damn
This is the part about getting older no one ever talks about. Those you looked up to, your heroes...they die eventually.

Uncomfortable question
If Sen. Obama does throw his hat into the ring for '08, do you think he does so with the expectation of:
-Winning the Office
-Changing the face of the Party
-Looking for a VP or other position in a Dem. admin
-Something else
...I like the guy, but I don't see how he honestly thinks he has enough to win the Presidency on.
And of course as I write this, NPR reports that Obama has put together his group to look into the race...meaning he can raise money.
Hmmmm....Edwards/Obama?

Henry Rollins on Net Neutrality
Find this video and thousands of others at vSocial!
Like there was any doubt.
Henry has become somewhat more articulate in the past few years. He's always been entertaining, I've enjoyed a lot of his writing, but he's really stepped himself up a notch.
Then again, you can see the outrage in his face. It's no wonder.

Musing
Cause love's such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care
For the people on the edge of the night
And love dares you to change our way
Of caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under Pressure

Hmm..
John Negroponte steps into the #2 position at State. #2...when he was #1...
Anyone think Condi will be exiting soon to prep for '08?

More than a little unease
Does anyone know of a "central petition" one can sign voicing against inaugural celebrations or balls?
While Wisconsin is better off than many states currently, it still feels a bit Let-Them-Eat-Cake-ish to hold an elaborate, multi-day inaugural celebration when there are people homeless and starving in your state.
I voted for Doyle, but the money being spent on this ceremony could be put to much better use elsewhere.
I understand the new NY Gov. refused a celebration for pretty much this reason. Is that correct?
